A historic news deal was signed Thursday between the Nicola Tribal Association and the Merritt Herald.

NTA president Kevin Ned and Merritt Herald publisher Etelka Gillespie signed an agreement for the Herald to publish the NTA News.

“This is a history-making event. There are no newspapers in North America which are working with First Nations in this way,” said Gillespie.

The NTA has discontinued their own newspaper publication that was distributed to member bands and will now publish pages in the Merritt Herald on a weekly basis. As part of the agreement, the NTA is supplying all member bands with subscriptions to the Merritt Herald, reaching seven bands in the publishing area.
