British Columbia's Merritt Mountain Festival, which disappeared in 2010 because of financial difficulties, will return in 2011.

Active Mountain Entertainment has announced Mountainfest will be held July 7-10.

The country music festival has drawn headliners such as Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire and the Steve Miller Band in its 18-year history. No acts have yet been named for the 2011 event.

Active Mountain's Claude Lelievre announced in July 2009 that his family-run company could no longer afford the financial burden of operating the festival, which had declining attendance.

But he later opposed a musicians group's bid to take over the festival.

Lelievre said he has overhauled operating methods for the festival, to take place at an outdoor site along the Coldwater River, 270 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.

Tickets go on sale in November.
