Every spring and fall Merritt residents and visitors are given a special treat. The doors the Civic Centre open up and welcome anyone seeking a delicious East Indian dinner. In the spring the dinner is hosted by the Punjabi Canadian Roots Club. It is a celebration of the harvest called Basakhi Mela. In Merritt the celebration usually takes place in April, but the date varies so keep your ears open for all the details. The fall feast usually takes place in September, and is hosted by the Merritt Rotary Club and Sunrise Rotary. You'll want to get your tickets early. Both events are fundraisers for the clubs and always sell out. It is a wonderful evening filled with great food, colourful dresses and lots of entertainment.
