VINTAGE CAR CLUB OF CANADA VISITS GOLD COUNTRY
As summer sun fades to fall’s fusion of color, Gold Country was visited by colors from the past. October 6th and 7th saw members of the Kamloops and Merritt chapters of the Vintage Car Club of Canada (VCCC) touring Gold Country communities. The group of vintage enthusiasts began their adventure by meeting at the Logan Lake Info Centre with manager Bernice Molyneux to begin their collection of Gold Nugget entry stamps and pose for photographs against the large shovel and haul truck. Then it was off to the Ashcroft Museum for a fabulous presentation on the history of transportation. Following some browsing of local businesses the group was corralled for more photos at the 1950s themed Cache Creek Visitor Centre, then off to Hat Creek for a tour. Saturday, was rounded out with the groups arrival in Lillooet for an evening of exploration and socialization.
Up bright and early, the car club members experienced the ‘Big Slide’ drive and arrived to a warm welcome by the Lytton Visitor Centre, manager Peggy Chute rounded up volunteers to cook and present coffee and treats to the club members. Organizer John Rostron stated, “The warm reception in Lytton was greatly appreciated and encouraged us to remain in town to see all the local sites.” From Lytton the group stopped to explore historic Spences Bridge and ended a fabulous weekend for ‘Good-byes’ in the City of Merritt. “It is essential to sustainable tourism that groups such as the Vintage Car Club are encouraged to visit our region and experience the warm welcome Gold Country is noted for,” shares Gold Country marketing coordinator, Amy Thacker. “Spreading the spirit of our communities will only encourage people to return again and again.” While many of our Visitor Centres are gearing down at the end of a busy tourism season, Gold Country is hard at work developing initiatives to highlight communities and businesses for the 2008 season. Watch for announcements on upcoming projects and programs. |
